I never felt like there was a choice in the matter. Call it primordial, call it instinct, I just always found myself drawn to the water, to the ocean.
To venture there, to hunt there, it just always seemed such a natural thing to do.
To try to explain being a spearfishermen it difficult. The sum of the parts it immeasurable greater than the whole. I think we all carry that hunter-gather evolutionary imprint it is simply that as a spearfishermen we choose to embrace it, rather than ignore who we really are.
On any given day I could tell you the tide, the swell, the visibility, but there is always the unexpected. The endless unknown, in the oceans ever changing moods and I think that is what I find is so extraordinary.
We are here for but a moment, the ocean will go on beyond us, but on those rare occasions she allows us to share in her beauty and her bounty.
Through the course of my life I have been so fortunate to share this experience with with so many other passionate spearos.
Hunters have told stories and passed down their knowledge for millennia. Like no time in history we now have a chance to tell our story to the world. Through the collaboration of passion filmmakers and spearfishermen, we have a change to share our love for the ocean.
Such diversity of people with a singular shared passion, and if you ask any of them, they will give you the same answer….
